Novice to Know-How: Online Digital Preservation Training for Community Groups

Join us to hear Sharon McMeekin, Head of Workforce Development, Digital Preservation Coalition, discuss the benefits of the online digital preservation course, Novice to Know-How, for people working in community archives and heritage groups.

Sharon will explain how the course aims to provide beginners with the skills required to develop and implement simple digital preservation workflows within their archive or group.

The course takes approximately 2 days to complete and can be done at your own convenience, spread over a 4-week period. There is an option to take a short test and receive a Certificate of Achievement.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to Digital Preservation
  • Files, Files Formats, and Bitstream Preservation
  • Using DROID (Optional)
  • Select and Transfer Digital Content
  • Ingesting Digital Content
  • Preserving Digital Content

Sharon will be delighted to answer any questions you have about the course. Volunteers and professionals working with community archives and heritage groups will have priority registering for the course in November and December.
