Copyright: Review & Revision Workshop

Date & Time: 9 November 2018, 12:30-16:00

Location: Blythswood Room, Mitchell Library, North Street, Glasgow, G3 7DN (Map)

To start off this workshop, we’ll play Morrison and Secker’s Copyright: The Card Game. This is a fun and interactive way to refresh our knowledge of the essential elements of the law: what types of work are protected; what types of uses are permitted; what exceptions can we rely on when making materials available; and some common copying scenarios to explore our individual appetite for risk.

In the second part of the workshop, we’ll explore and discuss new developments in terms of copyright law and research on cultural heritage institutions, and new resources that are available for the sector. These include the new EU Directive on copyright in the Digital Single Market (currently in trilogue negotiations between the Parliament and the Council) and the implications of Brexit, work at the World Intellectual Property Organisation on an international treaty on limitations and exceptions for Libraries and Archives, and both the copyrightcortex.org and diligentsearch.eu resources which have been made available in the last year.

Please note that if you have previously attended a copyright workshop where the card game has been played its content has not been changed, but the scenarios will be revised.
