Education & Learning

Our education work is led by an Education Committee composed of educators and archivists and guided by a strategic plan. We deliver a programme of training and online resources, facilitate partnerships and develop education and outreach projects.

Education and outreach work is essential for archive services to connect meaningfully with their local communities. Archives also have a vital role to play in education, not only in learning about local history but exploring wider Scottish heritage, investigating the reliability of data and evidence, and understanding the role of stories in building culture and identity.

We raise awareness of archives’ educational potential through partnerships between educators, archivists and the communities they serve, ensuring equal access to our rich archival heritage for children, young people and communities across Scotland.
