Scottish Community Archives Toolkit Project

Scottish Community Archives Toolkit Project

13 March 2023

SCA is delighted to offer one-to-one support for a number of community groups in Scotland who need professional help with their archives. Working with experienced archivists, Elspeth Reid and Jenny Duffy, we have offered support to groups around the country who took part in the first phase of the AHRC-funded Outreach to Ownership project in 2022. Support will include advice on cataloguing, storage, preservation, and working with digital records.

As part of the project, we are also developing a peer support network as well as a new community archives online toolkit which will be accessible to all groups in Scotland and beyond from August 2023. The project demonstrates SCA’s ongoing commitment to support the community heritage sector. Outcomes will include: community groups will have skills to manage and promote their archives; their archives will be more accessible and professionally maintained; and community archives will be less vulnerable to loss.

Scottish Community Archives Toolkit is managed by SCA as part of the Outreach to Ownership project co-ordinated by Historic England and Historic Environment Scotland, and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
