SCA is delighted to announce the launch of the Scottish Community Archives Toolkit!
The Toolkit has been developed by the Scottish Council on Archives (SCA) as part of its contribution to the AHRC-funded Outreach to Ownership project. SCA supported community groups around Scotland who needed help starting or managing their local archive through workshops and one-to-one training sessions. SCA is extremely grateful to the co-ordinators of Outreach to Ownership, Historic England and Historic Environment Scotland for their generous support. Working in partnership with professional archivists, SCA has designed the Toolkit to help smaller organisations and community groups with their archives.
The Toolkit is divided into seven sections, each covering a different aspect of managing and caring for a community archive: First Steps, Collections Management, Cataloguing, Collections Care, Digital Records, Sharing Your Collection and Legal Matters. Each section contains links to other resources and customisable templates.
John Pelan, SCA Director said: “The new Scottish Community Archives Toolkit has been developed in response to feedback we received from community groups across Scotland. We believe this will be an excellent resource for anyone who is struggling to start or manage their local archives.”
