Yesterday we were delighted to present Comunn Eachdraidh Nis with our Community Archive of the Year 25-26 Award for their outstanding work they have been undertaking.
Comunn Eachdraidh Nis (Ness Historical Society), established in 1977 was the first historical society in the Western Isles. It was recognised that there was a need to collect the history and memories of those who lived in the community at the time, many of whom had experienced WW1. It aims to record, preserve and promote the history, language and culture of North Lewis for local and global communities.
Last year we followed Comunn Eachdraidh Nis for A Year in the Life of a Community Archive project where they shared different updates and projects through blog posts on our website which has led to this award. The award was made by local ceramicist Sue Blair and will proudly go on display within their building.
A huge well done to the amazing team of staff and volunteers who are committed to preserving and promoting the history of Ness.
