Celebrating Scotland’s Archives and Records
As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations, the Scottish Council on Archives (SCA) invites archivists and records managers from across Scotland to nominate an item in their collections which is of particular significance or interest.
There may be an unusual story behind the item, either in the content or how it was obtained. Items can include manuscripts, publications, photographs, letters, documents, audio-visual files, digital files, and other formats. It could also be a recent item held by a records management team which has not yet transferred to the archive. We are looking for individual items rather than whole collections, which we have permission to show as copies, both on the SCA website, social media and in an exhibition. If the item is available to view online already, we will add a link to the description.
A selection panel will choose a list of twenty from the items nominated, which will be featured on SCA’s website, promoted through social media, podcasts, and news releases. Information about the twenty items will be displayed in a small exhibition at the Scottish Parliament at SCA’s 20th anniversary reception on 23 November.
This is NOT a top twenty list. We know that would be impossible, but we are hoping to showcase twenty items which you think demonstrate the wide range of archives and records in Scotland’s collections. If there is a story behind the item, even better, as this is Scotland’s Year of Stories.
