SCA Annual Conference success

11 December 2024

The SCA Annual Conference on 10th December 2024, Building Evidence: How Archives and Records support Scotland’s Historic Environment in The Engine Shed, Stirling featured a fascinating range of speakers and presentations.

SCA was delighted that the NRS Chief Executive, Alison Byrne attended and welcomed the delegates. Highlights include presentations of the use of archives in the work of the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust with Ingrid Shearer; Dr Keava McMillan and two volunteers from the Lavender Menace Queer Books Archives and two volunteers talking about mapping queer heritage in Scotland; Ellen Engseth from the University of Minnesota on interpreting the history of Dalkeith Palace through the traces left by past occupants; and a talk from Dr Valentina Bold and Anne Rinaldi on the history of the Crichton Trust site and the development of the Crichton Trust Centre for Memory and Wellbeing.

There was also a lively discussion on the need for a national archives and records strategy in Scotland and what might be the key issues and messages it could cover.

Thank you to all attendees and speakers!
