The Scottish Council on Archives (SCA) is seeking a freelance heritage consultant to collaborate on Made in Scotland: Building Connections Between Business and Community Archives, a project exploring the links between business archives and community heritage in Scotland.
About the Role
The consultant will research the impact of business archives on communities and the economy, generating insights into their role in preserving local culture, fostering identity, and promoting economic growth. This role involves:
- Experience of community engagement and/or archive/outreach projects.
- Producing case studies focusing on sectors such as textiles, tourism, and green energy.
- Contributing to a dedicated project webpage and supporting the planning and delivery of an in-person event to share findings.
- Supporting the project’s potential collaboration with the Business Archives Council of Scotland
Deliverables
- Web Content: A webpage featuring case studies on business archives’ community partnerships.
- Research Report: Analysis of the economic and community impact of business archives.
- Event Contribution: Participation in the planning and delivery of an in-person event to share research findings and best practices, highlighting case studies.
Outcomes
This project aims to:
- Increase public access to business archives as cultural and educational resources.
- Highlight archives’ role in delivering climate resilience, economic growth, and community empowerment.
- Strengthen connections between businesses, communities, and heritage institutions.
Who Should Apply
We’re looking for candidates with:
- Experience in community heritage.
- Familiarity with business archives would be desirable.
- A background in creating impactful research and reports.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
- A base in Scotland, with flexibility to travel as part of the role.
