Glasgow – Culture Scouts Celebrating Pottery Heritage

21 January 2025

Last Friday our Partnerships and Engagement Manager, Audrey, was invited to attend Make It Glasgow’s event and said a few words about SCA and CAHG Scotland Network.

Make it Glasgow brings together a group of enthusiastic volunteers known as the Culture Scouts, all dedicated members of the local community who contribute their time and energy to celebrating the city’s rich heritage.

Last Friday, the Culture Scouts selected items from a collection of donated pottery, and their chosen pieces will become part of an upcoming exhibition. This exhibition aims to create an engaging opportunity for local families to connect with Glasgow’s rich pottery heritage, which was once a cornerstone of the city’s industry.

Using archives, Make it Glasgow delves into the history of pottery making in the area—an industry that was not only significant locally but had a global impact, with products exported worldwide. This historical exploration highlights the city’s role in shaping global ceramic traditions.

The initiative is also focused on creating a new archive, primarily digital, which will preserve Glasgow’s pottery legacy. This evolving archive will include oral historiesdocumentaries, and film materials, capturing the voices and stories of those connected to this vital heritage.
