New toolkits

New toolkits

12 March 2026

SCA is currently developing two new online toolkits, with support from the ARA Research and Advocacy fund.

Consultants, Kazky were appointed in December to design and deliver the content for the Deposited Collections Toolkit in consultation with the SCA team and the Deposited Collections Working Group. The toolkit will provide practical guidance, resources, and advocacy materials to support archivists and archive holders throughout the UK and Ireland in managing deposited and loaned collections. It will help address sector-wide challenges relating to ownership, access, legal clarity, and institutional risk, while promoting consistent, ethical, and sustainable practice.

Consultants, Leadership Through Data were appointed in January to design and deliver the content for the Accessible Records Management Toolkit in consultation with the SCA team and the Records Management Working Group. The toolkit is aimed at individuals across the UK and Ireland who have records management responsibilities but are either newly qualified or working without formal qualifications. This includes staff in charities, small public bodies, community organisations, and private businesses. The toolkit will present core records management principles in plain language, with a strong emphasis on visual clarity, accessibility, and practical guidance, including templates, case studies, and real-world examples. It is intended to address a recognised sector gap in confidence and training for non-specialist practitioners, improving standards of recordkeeping and supporting better compliance, transparency, and accountability.

It is expected that both toolkits will be available online on the SCA website in early May. Webinars on the toolkits and their content will be organised in April.
