SCA has been supporting a project by the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust (GBPT) to rejuvenate a category B listed timber frame building and its contents, the West Boathouse – a clubhouse for two rowing clubs on the banks of the River Clyde, Glasgow. The rowing clubs have archives dating from 1850’s which were not catalogued or listed until the start of this project. Since then, SCA has worked closely with Ingrid Shearer, the Heritage Engagement Officer at GBPT to bring a series of blogs showcasing the unique challenges of preserving, cataloguing and sharing the newly listed collections.
In the first two blogs, Ingrid introduces the readers to the West Boathouse and its rich history and discusses sporting heritage, often hidden despite being everywhere around us! The newest blogs go into the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the work that went in, including volunteer participation, the equipment needed for cataloguing, the way the collection was used to tell the story of rowing on the Clyde and more.
