Dating Photos Through Costume

This month we were delighted to be joined by Dr Alison Rosie (Registrar, National Register of Archives for Scotland), who gave some hints and tips on dating photographs through costume.

In the absence of information from photographic type or studio, a knowledge of the general outlines of costume history can be very useful in helping pin down the date of a photograph. This talk will give an overview of the main trends in fashion over the decades from the 1860s to the 1940s with tips for what to look out for.
