To start off this workshop, we’ll play Morrison and Secker’s Copyright: The Card Game. This is a fun and interactive way to refresh our knowledge of the essential elements of the law: what types of work are protected; what types of uses are permitted; what exceptions can we rely on when making materials available; and some common copying scenarios to explore our individual appetite for risk.
In the second part of the workshop, we’ll explore attitudes to risk in more detail, and discuss case studies of institutions that have made third-party copyright-protected works available online. Participants will also be invited to contribute ideas for a potential ‘best practices’ model for making in-copyright archive collections available online in a fair and sustainable way.
