Join us for an informative day of talks and a workshop on First Steps: Caring for Community Archives.

The results of SCA’s community archives survey showed there is a desire for training in basic conservation, cataloguing and digital preservation while creating a network of resources to support people working with community archives. First Steps: Caring for Community Archives will start the series of training events we have planned for the coming year

We have joined with National Records of Scotland to provide an enjoyable and informative day starting with a hands-on workshop with NRS conservators on the handling, storage and environment of documents and photographic material, followed by presentations from NRS experts on cataloguing, digitisation and digital preservation. You will hear from a local authority archivist and their relationship with community archives and at the end of the day there will be a dedicated Q&A session.

It will be an opportunity to have your voice heard, ask questions and debate the needs of community archives. Everyone is expected to learn something new, be enthusiastic and take away new ideas to try out on their own archive collections.

We welcome participants from across the archives sector and especially those who are volunteers working with community archives who would like the opportunity to meet experts in their field, learn the first steps of caring for archival material and network with like-minded people.
