Kirsty Maclean

Kirsty has just recently graduated from the University of St Andrews (June 2022) but she experienced the first initial lockdown from March – August 2020 at home in North Uist. She also talks about the freedom of lockdown on North Uist and being able to take walks around her family croft. She was speaking to more sheep than people at one point! (but look at that wee face). As a number of Kirsty’s family were key workers she thought it was best to return to St Andrews and she talks about the shock she experienced upon returning to university and being around people again. Kirsty’s interview sheds light on the reality of many university students across the country who were attempting to get to grips with remote learning, a huge workload and far less support than is usually available just by being on campus surrounded by your peers and resources. This story allows for an interesting comparison as Kirsty spent the first lockdown at home in North Uist and the second at her university accommodation in St Andrews.
