Collection Care for Community Archive Heritage Groups
CAHG Scotland identified a need for workshops for community groups interested in upskilling in collections care to better preserve what their groups looks after.
These workshops are dedicated to the care of mixed collection and are led by accredited conservators with a certificate given to participants upon completion. These events are designed for volunteers and staff working with community archives and heritage collections or anyone interested in learning the basics of conservation and care for historical items.

Essentials of Collection Care for Community Archive Heritage Groups: Inverness
A comprehensive day dedicated to the care of paper and textile collections, led by accredited conservators Richard Aitken and Jeanette Pearson. This event was designed for volunteers and staff working with community archives and heritage collections, as well as anyone interested in learning the basics of conservation and care for historical items. It included a hands on document cleaning session.
Essentials of Collection Care for Community Archive Heritage Groups: Edinburgh
The day covered core conservation principles and ethics, common risks and agents of decay, environmentally sustainable housekeeping, preventive conservation including pest management, and environmental control. In the afternoon, participants enjoyed a private tour of the Georgian House as a case study in heritage preservation and took part in a hands-on cleaning session.
Identify and Care for Your Photographic Collection: Cupar
This hands-on workshop was designed to assist community archivists and enthusiasts in learning how to identify, care for, and preserve photographic materials. Hosted at Cupar Library, the workshop featured experts from the University of St Andrews, including Laura Brown, the Curator of Photography, and Erica Kotze, an accredited conservator with over 20 years of experience.
