Scotland Online Project Phase 2

In 2011, SCAN Ltd. contributed funding for the Scottish Council on Archives to employ a consultant to take forward the Scotland Online project.

The purpose of this phase was to identify the scope and technological options for the catalogue, agree with SCAN about their role, and to develop bid(s) for external funding to the Heritage Lottery Fund, or other funding bodies, as appropriate for the final phase of the project.

Caroline Williams, a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool and an Independent Archival Consultant based in Chester, directed a number of consultations and produced a report with recommendations for the final phase. The report can be downloaded from the useful documents.

Scotland Online Heritage Lottery Fund Application 2013-14

In 2013, the Scottish Council on Archives submitted a Heritage Lottery Fund application for development funding for the Scotland Online project. In spring 2014, the Heritage Lottery Fund advised that the application was unsuccessful on that occasion. The SCA was advised that there had been a particularly competitive round of proposals under review and were encouraged to submit another application to HLF in future.

The Scottish Council on Archives has been progressing discussions around sustainable infrastructure options for the catalogue. Additionally, the SCA has been undertaking sectoral development work in education and outreach to strengthen the position of future funding applications for audience development elements of the project. Work to date on progressing the project is currently under review.
