Our Identity

Collaborative working is central to many of our activities and our brand identity is no exception. The logo is composed of a number of symbolic elements based on three core ideas:

Infinity: the never-ending story of archives represented by the ribbon. The loop and rounded edges suggest collaboration.

Past, Present and Future: a dialogue between history that helps inform our current position and future practices.

Scotland: the central ‘cross’ is a nod towards the ancient symbol of the Saltire.




Our logo is intended to be flexible and you will see it in a number of formats and variations. From medieval manuscripts to contemporary records, the logo aims to showcase Scotland’s dynamic collections. We would like to thank the following services for their contributions:
