Scotland & the Commonwealth: 400 Years in the Making

The Scottish Council on Archives and Glasgow Life worked in partnership to use our wonderful archival heritage to mark the Commonwealth Games 2014. The exhibition, staged by Glasgow City Archives together with Glasgow Life employees, highlighted Scotland’s historic links with Commonwealth countries (and beyond) as part of the cultural programme for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

In earlier centuries Scotland made a unique contribution with the outpouring of ideas, expertise and its population to every corner of the globe. Visitors, travellers, and immigrants to Scotland have in turn enriched the nation. Many of these activities have been recorded and the exhibition is a celebration of our rich archival heritage and a history we share with much of the world.

The Scottish Council on Archives was delighted to support the exhibition by co-ordinating archive contributions from across Scotland. Browse our online gallery here.
